20th Martyrdom of Pt Prem Nath Bhat observed as Chetna Divas
Jammu (India) December 27, 2009
Report & images by Raman Raina

The 20th Anniversary of martyrdom of Pt. Prem Nath was observed as 'the Chetna Divas' at Jam-packed Abhinav Theatre here today. Pt. Prem Nath was assassinated on December 27, 1989 at Anantnag by a religious fanatic, whom Prem Nath Bhat's preaching of humanitarianism, secularism and national unity were unpalatable.

At a solemn function rich tributes were paid to Shaheed Prem Nath, a leading advocate of Anantnag in Kashmir, a selfless social activist, a journalist par excellence, writer of repute and patriot of the core.

This day is observed every year as the Chetna Divas by Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust and rich tribues are paid to late Bhat and all other martyres in J&K who sacrificed their lives at the altar of motherland in their endeavour to uphold the national unity and integration.

Minister for Education Mohammed Sayed was the chief guest. He recalled the contributions of late Pt. Bhar in various fields of life, particularly in the sphere of social service and humanitarian grounds.
