A DREAM AND MANY HOPES

Whenever I have looked back at my involvement in matters of the community, I have found reasons to ask “Why?” even though I know from my heart that it couldn’t and can’t be any other way. Recently, when my friend Deepak Ganju said that he wants to publish a Web Magazine, I decided to ask the question first. “Why?” “Because I like to do such things”, was the first thing Deepak said. I was sold right at the beginning. There cannot be a bigger reason or motivation, than to follow your heart. I believe that the heart wills stronger than the mind. That is why people follow their dreams even if it goes against practicality and also why people fall in love. Shehjar was the soothing and wonderful name that he chose but I couldn’t care much. What remained important was its format and content. Regarding the content, I couldn’t care much at this stage, because Deepak has proven himself, writing and compiling remarkable content for various publications for so many years. The format needed to be one that would be easy to reproduce, navigable and with ability to carry multi-media content. Shehjar, though a work in progress, already contains all these features. In a movie, things keep getting worse, till it comes the ending, the grand finale. In one’s final thought, the ending makes a movie "feel good" or a tragedy. I am an optimist and believe in happy endings. In that vein, there is a dream that many of us have for Kashmir and many hopes rest on the fulfillment of this dream. Windows of possibilities open up, only to belie expectation. Yet the dream remains and we remain, as eternal optimists. Then what would be an "end" to the dream that we carry? Would the “end” be a point in time or the end of possibilities or the very end of life? I think that it would just be the end of the many hopes. Yet, even if we always keep these alive, without positive and strong efforts for Kashmir, we might just be carrying our hopes like a disease. But if we find the time and energy to create and support positive efforts such as Shehjar, our many hopes will gain vigor and turn our dream into reality. Good luck to Shehjar along with my love and support. Let us have it from you too. Please email the editor Sh. Deepak Ganju at: |
