Vijay Malla, well known for his charismatic personality, personal strengths and wondrous singing, as for human fallibility is no more with us. So much did many who had only heard him or heard of him, want to see him live in concert and meet him in person. Oh dear passing day! What else is going to fall from the Kashmiri’s bucket list? Tears – Idle Tears (By Lord Alfred Tennyson)
Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean, Tears from the depth of some divine despair Rise in the heart, and gather in the eyes, In looking on the happy autumn-fields, And thinking of the days that are no more. Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail, That brings our friends up from the underworld, Sad as the last which reddens over one That sinks with all we love below the verge; So sad, so fresh, the days that are no more. Ah, sad and strange as in dark summer dawns The earliest pipe of half-awakened birds To dying ears, when unto dying eyes The casement slowly grows a glimmering square; So sad, so strange, the days that are no more. Dear as remembered kisses after death, And sweet as those by hopeless fancy feigned On lips that are for others; deep as love, Deep as first love, and wild with all regret; O Death in Life, the days that are no more! ![]() |

I have lost a great friend. I have no words to describe Vijay Jee. God bless his soul.

What a sad news, only 46 yrs old! We were little when we left Kashmir in 1990 but I remember dad playing Vijay malla ji's music on the cassette player, I could not appreciate it much as a child but when I came of age...I knew better. I love his bhajans... I will definitely contribute for all the joy he gave me through his magical voice! Rest in peace!

It is sad to know that Vijay Malla Ji is no more. It is equally sad that this Mast Malang was never compensated despite everything that he did for Kashmir and Kashmiri music. Without saying details, I think every body should show their respect for the departed soul and fulfill their duty by sending payment to Vijay Malla Ji's fund. Really sad but hoping for some good.

The phenomenon called death is perhaps more real than life itself and we all carry with us a post-dated death warrant. Despite Gita’s dictum that we should not grieve when Soul leaves the body, it is very difficult not to grieve the loss of someone like Vijayji Malla who enriched our culture through his music. I feel grateful to Arunji and Deepakji for honoring this great son of Kashmir in such a soulful and beautiful manner through Shehjar Magazine.
