Robin Raina, a successful businessman and voted amongst the top 100 Most Powerful people in Insurance in North America is passionate about his foundation and community work. The youngest of four children and named Robin because he chattered like the bird as a kid! did his schooling and college in Punjab, holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Thapar University in Punjab, India and an MBA from IIM Calcutta. He is presently President and CEO at Ebix ,a 28-year old publicly traded American company and has lead the transformation of this company into a profitable Global Group with offices in Australia, NZ, Singapore, London, Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Park City, Walnut Creek, India & Toronto. . Mr. Raina joined Ebix, Inc. in October 1997 as Vice President-Professional Services and was promoted to Senior Vice President-Sales and Marketing in February 1998. Mr. Raina was promoted to Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer in December 1998. Mr. Raina was appointed President effective August 2, 1999, Chief Executive Officer effective September 23, 1999 and Chairman in May 2002. He is today credited with leading the insurance industry’s march into the 21st century in terms of redefining the technology arena and has been credited with introducing many novel concepts to the insurance industry: * The concept of market making was introduced, launched and designed by him for the insurance industry. He is credited with launching the industry’s first Internet insurance exchange for market making by the leading analysts like Mckinsey. * He launched the world’s first completely wireless insurance system, targeted to lead the slow moving insurance agents forward. Robin likes to play a role in improving Indo-US trade, while generating increased employment both in India and United States. Today, he has made India into the nucleus for this American company, with approximately 250 employees presently in India. He dreams to have close to 3000 employees by December 2005 in India. The Indian company, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American company, runs an advertising campaign with a slogan – "American Company with an Indian Heart". That sums up Robin’s desire to bring the two countries together. Today, the company owns two large buildings in Noida, India and has built a name for itself as one of the key American multinational BPO operations in India. Robin loves the culture and vitality in Asia and thus both the Ebix buildings in India are built around that labor of love. He has recreated Rajasthan in one of the 25,000 square foot buildings with camels, village ambience, sky-based walls, a palatial look, waterfalls, chowki dani style cafeteria, trees inside the floor space with monkeys etc. The building design has been under a lot of media focus, with multiple television stations and magazines covering the essence of the building, work culture and the essence of what an American Indian’s love has lead him to do in India.
