Sighting You the First Time *Dr. K L Chowdhury
	You were only a vision, a desire to grasp and see, a beautiful thought, a symphony, a fragrance out of the ordinary, a touch of eternity. Then I saw you first time, on the ultrasonic screen, face to face in my own self, lying deep within me in quiet repose. Your eyes would not open from deep meditation. Unseeing, yet feeling my eyes on you, at the first sign of recognition of your mother, was it your little finger that you raised, my dear, and moved the whole world for me? And soon after, when you pantomimed, Hello ma, it is me, feeling so cosy; pray bear with me a little longer and I will be right there in your lap, in flesh and blood,’ it made me wonder why I was so far unaware even while you were coursing miles and miles right here, in my womb, not to be betrayed even by my love-sickness for this long.
This poem is from "Enchanting World of Infants" . For this book, Dr. Chowdhury won Lifetime Award for Excellence in Literautre (English) by the J&K State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages

*Dr. K L Chowdhury retired as a Professor of Medicine, Medical College, Srinagar. Presently he is the Director of a charitable institution, Shriya Bhatt Mission Hospital and Research Center, Durga Nagar, Jammu. He is a physician and neurologist, a medical researcher, poet, social activist. He writes on diverse subjects – medical, literary, social and political and has numerous research papers to his credit, his pioneering work being “The Health Trauma in a Displaced Population” which was presented at national and international conferences. He was declared Shehjar's 'Kashmiri Person of the year' for 2007.
