Clashes mar Final voting in Kashmir PDec 24 - The violence between the security forces and anti-poll demonstrators in Srinagar came on the 7th and final day of polling in state elections. Voter turnout in Srinigar was low in line with a boycott call by Muslim separatist groups. But high turnout is reported elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir. Susan Flory reports.

India 'not planning' Pakistan attack Dec 16 - India's Defence Minister denies plans for military action against its neighbour but demands action over the Mumbai massacre.The minister's denial of possible military action in response to the Mumbai attacks it blames on a Pakistan-based militant group came as India marked the 37th anniversary of its victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war which resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh. Israel rejects calls for ceasefire Dec 31 - Israel rejects calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stepped up preparations for a possible ground offensive. The current violence erupted after a six-month ceasefire ended December 19 and Hamas intensified rocket attacks from the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
