Kashmiri Rouf
Folk dance 'Rouf' is a popular dance of Kashmir. This dance, mentioned in Nilamata Purana, was prevalent even in the ancient times. Women folk used to sing and dance in spring after severe weather of winter. In 'Rouf', ladies form groups of two or four, consisting of even number of girls. They stand in a row, interlock their arms and jointly bring their feet forward and then backward. This is how the first step of dance starts.
