Who am I?

ho am I? My conversations at Bal Vihar in the Chinmaya Mission have made me think. Am I a merely a puppet in the show of life, just a speck in a drawing? Or am I the entire universe. I ponder the subject often but the truth remains a mystery. Sometimes I just lie down in bed and let my brain do its thing. What happens if we are all not real, I wake up suddenly once I die and all of this life turns out to be a dream?

I am not certain who I am. No one is certain of who they are. What I think is that we are just puppets in God’s play. God is the hand that controls us so basically he controlled me and made me write this essay. I think that this is also explained in Shakespeare’s soliloquy from “Macbeth”. “Out, out brief candle, life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Life is short and we do what we are supposed to do, then we disappear never to be heard from again.

In the Hindu religion the philosophy is that the candle’s flame leaves the candle for a new source of light and keeps on burning. In this case the candle symbolizes physical life. Everyone here has a duty to fulfill on Earth and once it is done, we pass on to a new body. So really, in the present time, I am who I am, a brother, a son, a friend, and a sportsman. I am Arman Koul and that is probably the closest to the truth that I will get.

Little Boy I am dazed by your deep thinking All religions and philosophers have thought like you on the purpose of life It needs wide studies and absolute concentration You seem to have developed both of them which is a feat beyond your age We can be only proud of you
