Ramnavmi & Maa Sharika Samman Ceremony Faridabad (Haryana) April 14th, 2011 |

ashmiri Sewak Samaj held a scintillating event on 11th and 12th April, 2011, the occasion being the Ram Navmi Hawan at the end of Navratra. Hawan commenced with Kalash Pooja starting at 8pm on Monday, Ashtami day where the President, Sh. Ravinder Bhan performed pooja. Teams of community members participated in different Sahukaars culminating with Poorna Ahuti at noon. An unprecedented gathering participated despite the day being a working day for many. A colourful programme followed thereafter with people assembling in J N Koul Memorial Hall at sharp 12.30pm to witness presentation of the Prestigious 'Maa Sharika Samman'. The President, Sh. Ravinder Bhan was the first to be escorted to the dias followed by the Chief Guest for the occasion, Sh. Sudhir Kumar Sopory, who is a scientist of Global standing. The humble and soft spoken Dr. Sopory is a Plant Molecular Biologist with 200 research publications and 13 edited books, recipient of Padmashri Award from the President of India in 2008 and the prestigious American Society Of Plant Biology Membership Award given to non US scientists, he being the first Indian to receive the award since its inception in 1932. Currently he is Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. After honouring the Chief Guest with a bouquet and a Shawl, the proceedings shifted to a welcome address by KSS President, Sh R K Bhan. He thanked all present for having come in such large numbers on a working day. He specially thanked Sh Moti Koul, President AIKS, Sh. Rakesh Kaul, Sh. Bushan Lal Bhat and Sh. Avinash Tickoo of Kashmir Samiti Delhi, Prof. B.B. Dhar, President KECSS, Pt. A N Koul Sahib, Dr. Romesh Raina of AIKS, Sh. Ramesh Manvati of Panun Kashmir and other eminent personalities of the community for having taken pains to be present at Sharika Bhawan. The jam packed hall with over 800 people gave a thunderous applause. Background of Maa Sharika Samman was given by Sh. M K Pajan, General Secretary, KSS. He mentioned that this award was instituted by KSS in 2003 to recognise and honour members of KP Community for their distinguished and dedicated service and accomplishments in the fields of Community Service at International and National level and also to motivate young Faridabad students for excellence in Academics. The award given every two years carries with it a Citation, a Memento and a Shawl. For excellence in Academics a cash prize is also given. Each recipient or their nominee was escorted to the dais and handed over a bouquet, citation, certificate and shawl by the Chief Guest in presence of President, KSS. On this occasion the latest book written by Dr. K. L. Chowdhury "Homeland After Eighteen Years-a 48 Hour Travelogue" was released on his request by the chief guest. Prominent community figures released a CD recorded by Smt. Sushma Kalla to Mata Sharika. Also this years calendar was released from the dais which focuses on concern for Green Earth. Children who won top prizes at Nowreh Celebration at Hari Parbat were presented gifts. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sopory recalled the development of KSS and stated that this institute had now achieved a distinctive position on KP map all over the world. He saw a bright future for this Sabha and complimented the Executive Members on their achievements. Following vote of thanks by the Vice President Sh. S N Kak, all members shifted to the basement hall for NAVEED VITRAN. Over 800 people participated in this and relished the tasty Dal, Munje Nadru, Daam aaloo, Khatta Mujee Nadru served with hot rice and licked their fingers. Prasad in the form of Kheer and Kalash dun was had by everyone. Stalls were doing brisk business selling Luchi, Nadre Munje, Designer Aatharoo and Dejhoor, Kashmiri Masala, Kashmiri songs, Books and sold all their ware.
