The Fading Faith

look at the current political dispensation leaves one awestruck over the messy situation that has arisen in the country. On one hand country is still gripped by age old issues of terrorism, Maoist violence and naxalism. On the other hand, the whole country is in the state of despair on account of pouring out of scams after scams, due to huge loss caused by the natural and man driven calamities. The governing class has made a great casualty of Nationhood and patriotism because their governance is primarily motivated by the vote-bank politics rather than real well being of their countrymen.

In the recent times some instances are put forth before us where in, the faith of a common man seems to be fading from the governance of the country. Paralytic policies and other vices have eaten our economic and social setup to the hilt. Our economy’s instability has led to the enormous decrease in the GDP and other growth indices. Again a common man is being grinded in all such conditions.

The law and order condition of our country is also not too good. In our democratic setup there have been earmarked certain institutions to be the pillars of our rock strong constitution. These pillars include executive, judiciary and others. It must not be forgotten that all round and comprehensive development of our nation is possible only when there is positive and righteous course of action adopted in strengthening of these by the representatives of the people. Unfortunately, it is our political class that has been constantly pounding them. With little support and battered inter-institutional linkages , these Institutions are trying to defend themselves but are bound to work under the pressure of the ruling party.

The first and the foremost institution, where in, common man turns for the redressal in the time of mishap or any snag is the police but, the conjunction but is to be associated with it vehemently for its negative role, or more appropriately in its failure to provide safety and security to its citizens. Today the esteem of police force is so degraded that people prefer to turn to some other alternative rather than dial 100 for the help. This force has lost credibility for vices of corruption and exploitation has made deep rooted insertions within the system. Especially for women folk they have proved more as hooligans rather than saviours as in case of recent Ram Lila Maidan agitation and subsequent Lathicharge undertaken by the ruthless police force. Although the role of police force came under scrutiny and questioning but people on the whole have lost their faith. In the recent Kumbmela at UP, due to Lathicharge by few police men, caused death of 23 innocent devotees. Another instance of capital city, the former Army chief, Gen. V K Singh was also treated inhumanly by Delhi police, for showing solidarity with the peaceful protesters at India gate. Yet another instance of functioning of Police was exposed in the Nirbhya case, wherein police teams instead of rapid action wasted their time in discussing the jurisdiction, when the victims where helplessly bleeding before them.

Probably, never before have the institutions like CBI; CVC & CAG etc lost much of their prestige in public as of now. The coordination and communication between these institutions have been debilitated and subverted by political parties for their vested interests. Earlier the role of CBI used to be selective and minimal, but now UPA has reduced it to merely a puppet such that even family affairs are brought under CBI charge sheet. Over 2000 corruption cases have been registered by CBI in the past 3 years. Many politically motivated cases have raised serious doubts about the working and functioning of CBI. This agency was in question when Jagan Mohan Reddy was raided, soon after he broke his ties with ruling congress and floated his own party. The opposition (NDA) blame the present Govt. has reduced it to a sort of blackmailing tool for opposition, as the type of strategy, the Govt. is adopting towards Modi ,BJP’s PM nominee for 2014 Loksabha elections. In a bid to put hurdles in the Modi’s assertion as PM candidate, CBI on the behest of central Govt. has opened up 2004 encounter case where in 19 year old college girl, Ishrat Jehan was killed by then top cops, along with three other persons all confirmed to be the Fidayeens of LeT by IB. The NDA also charges: for its selfish motive and for sake of carrying forward the trait of appeasement the present central govt. has brought two important Institutions whose credibility is at stake, at loggerheads with one another. Although, CBI in its first charge sheet has declared Ishrat Jehan encounter case as fake but Question arises that why LeT’s role was underplayed and why Congress is hell bent upon to demoralise and dislodge the patriotic fervour among our security forces. So much so the Supreme Court judge in its recent statement addressed CBI a “Parrot”, which became the talk of the town and a real joke all across the nation.

One wonders why CBI is so confused in the above said matter, if the agencies like FBI, IB, NIA have already confirmed the terrorist background of Ishrat Jahan, who along with 4 others were selected to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Contrary to that, round about the same time i.e., in the year2000, genocide of 1000’s of people of a particular community in J & K went unnoticed were forced to leave their homes and hearths. Not even a single FIR or charge sheet has been registered against a single terrorist of J&K. Why CBI is working day and night on Gujarat riots, and acting as a mute spectator towards Kashmir and the genocide of Hindu innocents. Under such circumstances how can a common man repose its trust & faith on such agencies? There are innumerable other cases which CBI is following meticulously on some bodies behest.

One wonders that if these important pillars of democratic setup will crumble then existence of a nation itself in danger. It is quite important that way law should take its own course similarly these institutions should be allowed to function independently without the interference from the political forces. It is high time for the ruling as well as opposition to roll up their sleeves to restore the lost credibility of the above said institutions. Moreover, stringent measures need to be taken at earnest to make the institutions like CBI autonomous for providing fair trail to the cases coming under their purview. The police force of the country also needs to be restructured and revamped besides making them more disciplined and duty bound.
