Vogue launches in India
Magazine publisher Conde Nast aims to raise the style bar with the launch of its first glossy magazine on the subcontinent. As India's rich are getting richer, luxury brands from around the world are setting up shop, and they are bringing glossy magazines with them. Global publishing giant Conde Nast is following the lead of other English titles and making its first foray in the Asian subcontinent with the launch of Vogue India. |

Wal-Mart faces protests in India
The world's largest retailer Wal-Mart finally gets a foot into the Indian market, but not everyone welcomes its presence. Wal-Mart and India's Bharti Enterprises signed a long-delayed agreement this week for an equal cash-and-carry joint venture which will open its first store next year. But trade organisations and unions in India are planning more protests against the entry of large firms like Wal-Mart which they say could ruin many small businesses. © Reuters 2007.
